The weather says no rain tomorrow and I breathed a sigh of relief 😮‍💨

Planning my 2 styled wedding shoots have been brain busting and rather intense! Tomorrow is the first one and everyone is checked and attending, I’m all packed up and there’s nothing else to prepare right now.

Tomorrow will be a full on day and will hopefully be filled with gorgeousness and beauty!

Why do we take part in styled shoots? For me it’s because I am a creative, and to do something for myself and get my teeth into a project is wonderful and why I started my career in the first place. I want to create art, fill my cup with creativeness and work with peers in my industry. Connecting together and working with each other is another treat in itself. Our jobs are often solo and we don’t have colleagues, so to come together is special 🤍

I hope tomorrow goes smoothly and I can bring you some amazing content and imagery 📸🤳🏻

Why not to rush your drinks reception….
This is the part when you should get to relax and enjoy your guests.

So many times I see a drinks reception where it’s only 45 minutes long 😬 and in that time you also need to have your family group shots and your couple portraits. So where’s the time to spend with your family and friends?

These shots are some of my favourite to capture. The natural, the soft joy, the embraces. Give yourself and your media team time to capture the happiness of the day and not rush through everything.

Use your day wisely, take your time, let it flow and not be hurried. Think about logistics, if there’s travelling between venues this takes up even more time. Speak to your industry experts, we know this stuff!

And tips for photos if it’s soggy or raining (no one ever wants the rain but let’s roll with it if we do!)

• Have back up block heel shoes for the grass.
• Don’t worry about your dress. A clean dress and no photos? Or a bit of dirt and wonderful photos?
• Groomsmen with giant umbrellas. They can follow us round and jump in and out with the umbrellas.
• Let your photographer grab you if it stops raining, even if you’re doing something - let’s grab shots whilst it stops!
• Embrace indoor photos! There’s always a doorway, stairs or indoor corner we can use. Let your photographer get creative.

Ok here’s a bit about what I love, what I don’t and the rest, get to know me more:

• I’m quite particular. I like everything just ‘so’.
• I hate mess and untidiness. My house gets tidied every night before bed.
• I’m pretty sure my blood is made up of 70% Prosecco 😂
• I drive in silence 🤫 music is rarely on (I have a 3 year old, my ears need a rest!)
• I’m the youngest of 3 and I’m the only girl (yes I’m a daddy’s girl, even still now)
• I got married on the top of a Norwegian mountain 🏔️ and sped along in our own boat in the fjords in our wedding attire afterwards!
• I come across as an extrovert but I’m really an introvert.
• The key to my stomach is a good burger, pizza, Chinese or any fast food really!
• I’m a workaholic 🫠

I thought January was supposed to be quieter but mine has been wonderfully busy!

I adore most parts of a wedding day but one of my favourite parts really is the reception! Stepping back and watching everyone have fun, all dressed in their best and capturing those precious moments. It’s the most fun part of the day and I always advise my couples to have a decent length of time to enjoy yourself as well as get portrait shots and family group shots, because I want you to have time to enjoy your guests and they want to see you!

Don’t rush trying to do it all in 1 hour, spread out your day. Want advice on your wedding timeline to make sure everything will fit in - reach out!

Ok I’m going to say it! There really are SO many photographers out there these days and it seems like a race to the bottom, who does it for the cheapest. This should not be the case and is quite damaging to the creative industry.

I’ve spoken to so many couples over the years after their wedding and had a range of responses including the below:

“We had a friend do them as they were cheap. The photos were okay but I wished I’d booked a photographer with the style I liked.”

“My uncle was a retired photographer and he offered to do them for free. I wished I had the photographer I loved when researching. I’m thankful for my uncle but I’m not in love with my wedding photos.”

“I didn’t want to spend the extra £700 on a higher end photographer so I settled for someone cheaper. I wished I’d just booked the other photographer now looking back.”

“We chose to spend our money on a band that cost £1800 for a 2 hour set. They were fantastic but we didn’t have a photographer, so only have phone snapshots from our day. If I did it again I’d definitely change how I spent our money.”

Photography is an INVESTMENT, and many wonderful photographers have skill and style, so in turn, the more you will pay. It’s like anything in life, pay cheap, get cheap. Pay average, get average. Photography is such a creative job and those that are really in it for the art go that extra mile to ensure our skills are high and our expertise are on point. Not anyone can just press a button and create gorgeous imagery. (Even though many people think so)

So just a tip from me, research well, talk to photographers, invest and have wedding images to cherish and love every day thereafter.
